Our Verdict

The best free option for running a private poker night online with friends. Skip the download clients — PokerNow runs entirely in the browser with room codes that take under 30 seconds to generate.

What We Like

  • Private room system lets you play with specific friends rather than random strangers
  • No account required to create or join a room — share a URL and play immediately
  • Blind structure and starting stack are fully customizable per session
  • Supports both play-money and tournament formats with automatic blind escalation

Watch Out For

  • No built-in chat moderation or spectator controls — room host must manage the table
  • Play-money tables attract some players who go all-in every hand since stakes are zero
  • The interface is functional but sparse — no hand history export or HUD statistics

How to Play Texas Hold'em

  1. 1The dealer button rotates each hand. The two players to the dealer's left post the small blind and big blind — forced bets that seed the pot.
  2. 2Each player receives two hole cards face-down. The first betting round (pre-flop) begins with the player left of the big blind.
  3. 3On your turn, choose: fold (surrender your hand), call (match the current bet), raise (increase the bet), or check (pass when no bet is owed).
  4. 4Three community cards are dealt face-up (the flop). A second betting round follows, starting left of the dealer.
  5. 5A fourth card (the turn) is revealed and another betting round occurs. Then a fifth card (the river) is revealed for the final betting round.
  6. 6If multiple players remain after the final bet, a showdown occurs — best five-card hand from any combination of hole cards and community cards wins the pot. Standard rankings from highest: Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, Pair, High Card.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best starting hand in Texas Hold'em?

Pocket Aces (two Aces as your hole cards) is the strongest starting hand, winning roughly 85% of the time heads-up against a random hand. Pocket Kings, Queens, and Ace-King suited are the next tier. However, even premium hands can lose — they are favorites, not guarantees.

What does 'position' mean in poker?

Position refers to where you sit relative to the dealer button. Acting later in the betting round (closer to the dealer button) is a major advantage — you see how opponents bet before you decide. The dealer button (or 'button') acts last post-flop, making it the most powerful seat at the table.

How does PokerNow handle real money?

PokerNow.club is strictly play-money — it has no mechanism for real-money transactions. It is free to use with no rake, no deposits, and no withdrawal. You can run your own chip counts externally if you want a side arrangement with friends, but the platform itself handles no real funds.
