A late-game event triggered by buying specific Grandma upgrades. The grandmas mutate into Elder beings, Wrinklers appear on your cookie to drain and then return cookies with a bonus, and the game's tone shifts from cheerful to deeply strange.
When you have enough cookies to earn at least 1 Heavenly Chip, you can 'ascend' — this resets all cookies, buildings, and upgrades but grants permanent multipliers. Most players wait until they can earn 100+ chips per ascension to make it worthwhile.
