Hi there. If you are here then you've come to see how the forums work. Right here, we'll start with the basics.

EDIT: Paddy can you make this a sticky and can you lock this thread or making it impossible to post here. I will edit these posts soon. Is there a way so you can merge these posts together? I would like it if you could.

The Forums
There are other forums. I'm not going to explain much about these, but here's a tip when you make a topic in a different forum. Always make sure before you start a topic that it's in the right forum. If not, you won't be getting your responses. Another reason why to follow forum rules is that to always and I mean always stay on topic. If not, you'll screw up everything and destroy a thread that is to be on topic always. Have fun reading this forum guide.

The Newbie Forum
This forum is here only to introduce you. Others will treat you respect and welcome you to this forum. By respecting old timers, you will fit in to the OGN community. Some would tell you to read the stickies. I suggest you read them so you won't get into a bad start. However, the newbie forum is also where you post your questions. Others will answer these if they can. All newbs will be treated with the respect they deserve.

Grammar
Always type correctly and use your grammar very well. If you want me to explain grammar to you, I can't because it'll take too long. That's why there is a thread about in the forums. Check out Free Grammar Lessons!

Note: I suggest you read how to type or else you'll sound like a retard in the forums saying,

Most people can barely understand what this is saying to them, so they barely will get help at all. That's all I'll give on this part, for now.

Threads, Posts, Images etc
First, Threads:
Usually, when you start a thread in a forum, you're willing to accidentally make yourself think, ‘What if they laugh at me?'', ''Is this following the forum's rules?'', or ''Will I get myself hated?'' To start a new thread, click on the New Topic button inside a forum (). I suggest you think before you make one of these threads that make you feel guilty and check your spelling before you submit your thread. Sometimes you would make a thread in the wrong forum or duplicate it by mistake. It's ok if you do this by mistake. Others won't get mad at you. If your threads are pointless, it will result in trash. Not worthy of posting in it. Most of these will be deleted. If Paddy knows yet, she can lock threads or unlock threads. I won't discuss about what is a locked thread until Paddy starts locking threads until then, it would be pointless. However, if you make a thread that already exists, I suggest that you don't make it, hardly anyone will answer it. If you do, we'll try to answer it. I suggest you look at the old ones that have been answered to find what you need. We all know that you don't want to dig through too many threads so that's why the search button was invented. Click here and type in what you're looking for. I'll discuss the search button later through this thread.

Second, Posts Pt. 1
The Buttons.
Posts can contain anything. You can reply to a post by clicking on the ''Post Reply'' button located at the top left hand corner or bottom left hand corner inside a thread (). If you want to reply right away, click on the ''Quick Reply'' button located at bottom right hand corner of each post (). If you want to quote someone’s post click on the ''Quote Post'' button located at the bottom right hand corner of each
post (). If you wish to edit your post, click on the ''Edit Post'' button located at the bottom right hand corner of your own posts.

Posts Pt. 2
The Tool Box.
The tool box is located at the top of your posts each time when you edit or submit your post. Your tool box has these tools, , , and etc. There is allot to demonstrate on these. I'll start from left to right.
1. This button removes text formatting like when you use a button code, it will remove it.

2. Fonts.
This button lets you change the way you type. I'll type a word and see how it comes out using the fonts. ''MOYA'' You see how I changed how it looked like? There are others that do different things.

3. Sizes.
This button makes a word bigger, but I don't want to type a word down and maximize it to 7 to make my post look all messy. Here's an example, MOYA. See how it increased in size?

Note: I don't want to see spamming in these forums that super size to seven messing thread pages up. It takes along time to scroll down to the bottom of a page.

4.
This button changes the color of text in posts. For example, MOYA. See how the color changed?
Note: I also don't want to see spamming using a very light color. It makes other people hard to see what you post. I especially don't want to see white.

5.
This button has smiley. They're ok to use. Here's a smiley I like, . I always picture this smiley of someone who breaks the rules. That's what they are clearly saying to the admin(s).

Note: I don't expect to see smiley that are rude even if they're in the smiley list. I don't want to show some but you know what I mean.

6.
This is one of my favorite but hard to know how people use them buttons. This button is an attachment. You can upload a picture from your CPU or from a website and it'll appear as an attached image or thumbnail. You want to see an example? I'll need to start another post but here you go. Look at the ''Attached Thumbnail'' below.

7.
This is the undo button. For example, you accidentally deleted all of your typing and said,

''NO! All of my hard work is gone. I don't want to type this **** again. Forget it. I'm not going to post.''

Don't worry. This button is here to undo the mistake you've made. It's like going back in time to change what happened in the past so you could see the effects in the future.

8.
This is the redo button. There's not much to say about this button. I can't explain. All I can say is that it's the opposite of the undo button. Have fun.

9.
This is the ''bold'' button. It bolds any word. For example, MOYA. See how my name bolded? It's also used to highlight and point out mistakes in a person's post.

10.
This is the ''Italic'' button. It's not from Italy. It slants words. For example, MOYA. See how my name slanted? It activates when a person is quoted.

11.
This is the ''Underline'' button. It underlines words. For example, MOYA. See how my name is underlined? Genius. It's used to underline certain words in a question making sure you don't miss the important words.

12.
These three buttons adjust how you type. You can have words in the middle, moved to the left or right. It's barely used because allot, I mean allot of people don't justify their typing. Otherwise as moving words, it's called alignment.

13.
These four buttons order lists, unordered lists, out dent and indent. I haven't used them yet, but I know what they do. They put words in boxes, the boxes turn into charts with the order list button. The unordered list button does the opposite of the order list button. The out dent button shortens the ''Tab'' key's effects. The indent button helps increases the ''Tab'' key's effects.

14.
This is the ''Insert Link(s)'' button. It inserts links in highlighted words. For example, newbs. Simple as that. It's also another of my favorites.

15.
This is the ''Remove Link(s)'' button. This button removes shortcut links like newbs.

16.
This is the same as the ''Insert Link(s)'' button. It's the ''Insert Email Link(s)'' button. Highlight a word and use this button to insert an Email link.

17.
This is the ''Insert Picture(s)'' button. For example, ''Damn, I can't insert an image/thumbnail in the attachments. What do I do now? I know, I'll go find where I found the picture, right hand click and go to properties and copy the URL address and put it inside the ''Insert Picture(s)'' icon. Genius.'' I like this button just as well as the ''Attachments'' button. Have fun.
Note: I don't want to see pornography by abusing this icon. Ha-ha, the admin has shortened the limit of picture use to four. Too bad. That's one reason why I can't merge these posts together god damn it!

18.
This is the ''Quote'' button. It can quote anyone’s post and make it look like a box around a letter. Here's an example,

. I know a trick where you can put an arrow by that person's name so you can actually view the post, but it doesn't work in this forum.

Note: I better not see the abuse of this button. It can be made into a quote pyramid. I'm not going to say how, but I better not see quote pyramids. I know what kind of destruction they can lead to just by trying it. It messes up thread pages god damn it! I'm definitely not going to show an example of this.

19.
This button wraps around certain things you want to wrap so it won't be camouflaged with your post so people might miss it. For example,

. This is the best thing to do around links, codes, pictures etc.

Note: Same as the quote pyramid. I do not want to see the abuse of this button.

Buttons that you don't pay attention to.
20.
This is what I always want you newbs to use. The reason why is that some of you can't spell or use your grammar correctly.

21.
I don't remember this button but it has to do with size. It only decreases size.

I don't remember this button but it switches editor mode.

Thread Options.
Thread Tools:
These don't appear until you finished posting/submitting your new made thread. The ''Thread Tools'' include options like, ‘Show Printable Version'', ''Add a Poll'', ''Email this Page'', and ''Unsubscribe from this thread.
I will show you how each of these works.
Add a Poll:
This option lets you add a Poll, but you need to fill out the requirements it lists.
Show Printable Version:
Changes how the forum looks to your point of view.
Email This Page
You can Email what's here to a friend or family member.
Unsubscribe from this Thread:
Let's say you posted in a thread, but don't want to be a part of it anymore. Simply click on this button and all of your posts are gone.

Search This Thread:
Let's say there are too many posts in a thread and you want to find something in their. You don't need to look through pages because that's why the search button was invented. Type in a person's name or word's of a post and it'll show you results of what you're looking for. It's that simple.

Rate Thread:
I don't think this is very important, but you can rate threads just like the games in this site. Same rules apply on a scale of 1 - 5.

Display Modes:
This button displays how the thread looks like in your point of view.
Here are the three modes:
1. Linear Mode (Current Mode)
2. Hybrid Mode
3. Threaded Mode
You don't like how this thread looks? Well switch modes of course.

« Previous Thread | Next Thread »
These links are always at the last post in one page of a thread. They take you to the next or previous thread there is. They're not much to learn about.

Forum Jump
This isn't very important but it only takes you to other forums. It's located at the very bottom right hand page in a thread.

Note: There are certain threads where you can't post. Then make a thread about because your thread will be turned into spam and die. You're lucky if the admin(s) deletes it.

Well that takes care of the posts and threads. Time to move on.

Your Account:
Don't think this a bank account because it's not. I'll start you off with your User CP.

User CP
This is where you create a signature, PM, upload an avatar etc. I don't want to here newbs say this, ‘Where’s my user CP? I can't find it. Can someone help me?'' Not to worry I'll link you to your User CP right here. Now I'll move on to how you can do things in there.

Settings & Options

Edit Signature:
This is where you create your very own signature. You can put what you want in there, but let's say you're thinking this, ‘I’m going to put everything on my signature and make it big.'' Too bad, the jokes on you. The limit only exceeds to 125 characters max. In other words, three lines of typing. You can put images on their but they only can be smiley. Nothing else. You also can put links in signatures.

Edit Email & Password:
Let’s say that you changed your Email or that you want to change your password because you might get hacked. It's very simple. First, Email.

Email
You can change your Email, but if you put in a fake one, it will send a link to there and if you don't activate it. Tough luck newb. Why'd you do it? I only will suggest you to change it if you changed your Email address, but that you haven't changed your Email in the forums.

Password
You can change your password. I suggest you pick a well thought out easy to remember one because if you forget it, you'll need to give your Email and username so the server can Email you a link to get around and reset your password. Here's a question.
Q: What if I didn't put in the correct Email?
A: Tough luck pal. You'll need to make another account.
These tasks are very simple. Now it's time to move on.

Edit Profile
This is where your info is stored. It's also where you put in your Skype, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, and IM names so other people can send you a message in the forums. You can also put the URL for your home page and describe yourself below. If you want, you can hide your birthday and age or do one or the other. Very simple tasks.

Note: I don't want to find out that other people have fake ICQ, Yahoo, or Skype etc. I know a person who did this and that person knows who he is. The reason why that is what if an admin sends you a message that's important, but you blocked off your Email. I will test some of these.

Edit Options
This is where you edit what you can do. You can select invisible, disable PMing, or block off your Email etc. You can set how the forum looks like to your point of view. You can select your time zone.

Edit Profile Picture / Avatar
This is one of my favorite User CP things to do. I'm not going to explain everything all over again so I'll give a link where you can read this info.
Click here to know how to set up your custom avatar or profile picture.

Note: Don't even think about uploading a huge avatar from your CPU or URL because Paddy has reduce the size to 80 x 80 pixels. That means most of the URL pictures can't upload through the system but your CPU pictures can.

Private Messaging (PM)
PM is sending a message to person privately that no one else can see. Be careful how many messages you send because the limit exceeds to 50.
Here's what I think of some people using this. ‘I will send a message to everyone saying that they suck. Muhahaha!'' Too bad, again. You could only send that message to five people at a time and as long as the limit exceeds, you will need to clear your space. Also, if you send a hurtful message to someone who has done nothing wrong. That person will contact us and we'll ask that person to forward that message. We will figure out what happened. Do it again and we'll do something about it. We don't want anything offending the OGN community.

List Messages
This will list all the PM's you've sent/received.

Q: ''Can I delete messages I have?''

A: Yes. Check mark it and go to delete.

Send New Message
This will allow you to send a PM to anyone as long as you have something to say. You'll will definitely need to add a subject.

Q: ''When I send a message it says that person has too much space what do I do now?''

A: Try contacting that message some how and let that person know how his space has exceeded the limit or maybe that person will find out and delete some.

Q: ''When I send my message, it says I can't submit because it's 5,000 characters long. What did I do now?''

A: Not to worry. Just shorten the message. It will tell you how many characters are over 5,000.

Track Messages
This will track PM's from you or another person and see where they went.
There are no questions yet for this one.

Edit Folders
This will allow you to customize your folders. For example, you can make a folder called, ‘Friends PM's'' and whenever a friend sends you a PM, you can move it from your inbox to your folder. Here are Q & A.

Q: ''How many folders can I have?''

A: I haven't figured that out but I suggest you make at least three or less folders so you can keep track of your PM's.

Q: ''Will this allow me to have more then 50 stored PM's?''

A: No. It will still count. If you have too many friend PM's, I suggest you delete the ones you don't want. That way you will have more room for future messages.

Subscribed Threads
This contains all your folders and threads you've subscribed in.

List Subscriptions
This contains all you subscriptions. Instead of finding an old buried in the forum's thread that you want to unsubscribe from, you can find it in the List Subscription's and unsubscribe from there. Simple as that. Here are Q & A.

Q: ''If I unsubscribe, do I lose posts?''

A: Yes, you do. If you're not part of the thread then you're posts are not part of it either.

Q: ''Can I still post if I unsubscribe?''

A: Only an idiot would ask something like that. The answer is yes.

Edit Folders
Did you think the subscriptions have folders? Yes, they do. Exactly like PM's you can store subscribed threads in any folder you've created.

Miscellaneous
I don't really know what this word means, but it contains attachments, friends, and event reminders.

Event Reminders
The only way you can use this, is that if you go to calender and plan something.

Buddy / Ignore Lists
This contains all of your buddies. Your buddies will be online when you look who's online and you'll see a ''+'' by their name. If you ignore somebody, then you can't view their posts. Simple as that.

Attachments
This contains all of the attachments you posted like the example I showed a couple posts ago.

FAQ
The FAQ is like the search button. I can't tell you much because I really don't know what the FAQ is. I will edit this post when I find out.

Q: ''Is there an easier way to find my friend's name without going through all of the members?''

A: Yes, there is. That's why the search button was invented.

Show Today
This will show today's birthdays.
Monthly View
You can adjust when to see birthdays.
Add New Event
This is where you can put an event in the calendar to remind you what you need to do.

Q: ''How come my birthday doesn't show up on th list?''

A: It's because you need to wait next year for the 2007 calendar to be created.

Q: ''Is there another way for OGN to celebrate my birthday?''

A: They will send you an Email saying that they wish you a happy birthday.
